There are many benefits of belonging to AUSIT, Australia's Professional Association for Translators and Interpreters.   AUSIT members are at the forefront of the translating and interpreting profession in Australia and they are instrumental in shaping its future.  By joining AUSIT, you can take an active part in this important process. Being a member of AUSIT is a mark of professional recognition. Here is a list of some of the membership benefits:

1. Professional Development and Keeping Up-to-Date

  • Enjoy preferential member rates for entry to workshops and seminars and to the biennial national interpreting and translation conference.
  • Receive AUSIT’s quarterly newsletter (in hard copy or electronically) – a forum for the exchange of information and ideas, and a place where you can read the latest national and international T&I news and reports of AUSIT activities.
  • Gain access to the members-only section of the AUSIT website containing information on pertinent subjects that every translator and interpreter should know.

2. Networking

  • Participate in AUSIT’s regular networking sessions, workshops and seminars, where you can listen to presentations on a range of relevant topics and meet with your fellow practitioners. Read a feedback from a member!
  • Join the e-bulletin, AUSIT’s electronic forum for professional exchanges with 350 subscribers: ask and answer questions, share your own views on T&I or other language matters, get involved in discussions and gain an overall view of what the current issues are. A further 300 members are being reached by the electronic eFlash which disseminates information about forthcoming events. You can now talk to your colleagues in your own language group by subscribing to a specific language T/I forum. E-mail groups are available for the Arabic, Baltic/NordicChinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Indonesian/Malay, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese and South Slavic languages. Other aspects of the professional life are discussed in the groups: Medical, Translation technology, Literary translation, Overseas Members, AUSIT Constitution Review and Pay and Conditions.

  • Members are also welcome to attend committee meetings and encouraged to participate in branch activities.

3. Directory of Members

The AUSIT website includes a directory of fully qualified (NAATI-accredited) members for public viewing.

  • Inclusion in the AUSIT directory of members allows you to better market your services by giving you access to potential clients in all areas of the business. It is the most comprehensive and most up-to-date directory of active practitioners available in Australia. You can also purchase an additional on-line package which includes hyperlinks to your e-mail address and personal website, and a personalised entry in a notes field.

4. Representation

  • AUSIT is frequently invited to participate in government and other forums dealing with matters relating to the translating and interpreting profession.
  • AUSIT also makes representation to government and the private sector to achieve higher recognition and better conditions for the profession as a whole. 

5. Preferential Rates

Associate

  • Any individual, institution or association that has an interest in the profession of interpreting and translation 
  • $ 99.00
    • Students
      Individuals who can demonstrate that they are students pay only $ 66.00
       

Member

  • Translator or interpreter with NAATI accreditation or recognition or equivalent qualifications. 
  • $176.00

Senior Practitioner

  • Members with full engagement in the T/I industry at professional level or above for at least five years can advance to this category. Requirements are described on the application form.
  • $ 220.00
